Aaron Sorkin is set to return to the story of Facebook with a new film titled “The Social Reckoning.” Sony Pictures announced that Mikey Madison will portray Frances Haugen, the former Facebook engineer who leaked internal documents in 2021. Jeremy Strong has been cast as Mark Zuckerberg, while Jeremy Allen White will play Jeff Horwitz, who was a reporter at The Wall Street Journal during the events depicted.
Frances Haugen became widely known after she provided thousands of pages of internal records to The Wall Street Journal. This led to an investigation called the “Facebook Files,” which reported that Facebook prioritized profits over user safety and concealed its own research from both investors and the public.
Aaron Sorkin will write and direct “The Social Reckoning.” According to Sony Pictures, the film is not a direct sequel to Sorkin’s previous work, “The Social Network,” but rather a companion piece. Bill Burr has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role. The studio plans for a theatrical release in October 2026.
“The Social Network,” released in 2010 and directed by David Fincher with Sorkin as screenwriter, focused on the legal disputes surrounding Facebook’s founding. The film achieved critical acclaim and commercial success, earning more than $226 million worldwide and receiving eight Academy Award nominations, including three wins.
