California has allocated $80 million to support 11 regional economic development projects, with a significant portion—$28.6 million—dedicated to agricultural technology and farm equipment initiatives. This funding is part of a broader two-phase plan totaling $125 million aimed at boosting sectors such as aerospace, defense, manufacturing, technology, and water resources as outlined in the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint.

The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) will lead a coalition managing the $28.6 million for four agriculture-focused projects.

Governor Gavin Newsom commented on the announcement: “We’re not just talking about creating jobs and growing our economy – we’re putting real dollars to work right now in communities across California. These investments will build momentum and deliver measurable progress in the months and years ahead, providing regions in every corner of the state with new tools to create good-paying jobs and strengthen local industries from the ground up.”

Among the recipients, Los Angeles County received the largest individual award of $23.92 million for life sciences initiatives that include business accelerators, loans for small startups, and marketing efforts designed to attract employers in the sector.

Additionally, REACH Central Coast was awarded $16.9 million to advance space, defense, and satellite industries through its “Space Vandenberg” initiative. The funds will also support developing an advanced air mobility corridor connecting four public airports within the Monterey Bay Area.
