The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has released three new instructional videos designed to help the public participate more effectively in its proceedings. The videos cover how to navigate the CPUC’s Docket Card system, how to become a party to a proceeding, and how to understand rules regarding ex parte communications.
The CPUC’s Docket Card system is an online resource where users can access information about recent decisions, motions, and comments related to essential services such as energy, rail, telecommunications, transportation, and water. The new video provides guidance on how to use this tool for research purposes.
The second video explains the process of becoming a party to a CPUC proceeding. According to the CPUC, both individuals and organizations have the opportunity to be formally involved in these processes.
A third video focuses on ex parte communication rules. These are regulations that govern how parties may communicate outside of public hearings or workshops. The video outlines compliance requirements for different types of CPUC proceedings.
These resources aim to encourage broader participation in CPUC policymaking by providing accessible information about its procedures and requirements. The commission hopes this will lead to more diverse perspectives in decision-making and ensure that utility services remain safe, reliable, and affordable across California.
“With the help of these new videos, you can bring your diverse perspective to CPUC proceedings to help ensure utility services are safe, reliable, and affordable for all Californians,” said Kimberly Ellis, Public Information Officer II.
The launch of these educational materials is part of the CPUC’s ongoing efforts in business and community outreach.
