The U.S. Census Bureau will conduct a prerelease webinar on September 4, 2025, at 1 p.m. ET to discuss the upcoming release of the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates. The ACS is an important source of data on various topics such as language spoken at home, education, commuting, employment, mortgage status and rent, income, poverty, and health insurance coverage.

The webinar aims to guide participants on how to access ACS data and resources. It will also provide advice for comparing statistics across different geographic areas and time periods. Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office will lead the session.

According to the Census Bureau, embargo subscribers can access the one-year estimates starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. This early access covers all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other locations with populations of at least 65,000 people. The embargo period ends September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. Wire services are reminded that distributing embargoed content before public release is not allowed under Census Bureau policy.

All datasets will become publicly available by September 11 at 10 a.m. ET. Those interested in embargo access can register through the Census Bureau’s website at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.

The prerelease webinar will feature both an audio conference and online presentation format; attendees do not need to call in separately for audio access. Credentialed media and data users may submit questions during or after the event using provided features.

For registration to attend the webinar, visit https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.

“Wire and distribution services are prohibited from distributing embargoed news stories and data files before the public release date and time. For more information, refer to the Census Bureau’s embargo policy.”
