The U.S. Census Bureau will begin an embargo for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates on September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The public release of these statistics is scheduled for September 11.

The ACS offers a broad set of data about people and housing in the United States, including information on language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income levels, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. It remains the only source of local estimates for most of its more than forty topics.

According to the Census Bureau, “The one-year statistics will be available to embargo subscribers beginning Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. ET for all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, all congressional districts and metropolitan statistical areas, and other geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.”

Embargoed access is provided to approved subscribers from Tuesday morning through early Thursday morning before public release. The Census Bureau notes that “Wire and distribution services are prohibited from distributing embargoed news stories and data files before the public release date and time.” More information about this policy can be found in the agency’s embargo policy.

All related data products—including those available via data.census.gov, its API service, summary files, and other tools—will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.
