The U.S. Census Bureau has announced it will release findings from three major reports covering income, poverty, and health insurance coverage in the United States for 2024 at an online news conference scheduled for September 9 at 10 a.m. EDT.

The reports—Income in the United States: 2024, Poverty in the United States: 2024, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2024—will provide national statistics derived from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). These documents will present annual estimates on income, earnings, inequality, official and supplemental poverty measures, as well as health insurance coverage status across various demographic groups.

According to the Census Bureau, these data are intended to help evaluate economic trends and assess the well-being of households, families, and individuals throughout the country. The agency states that “annual income, earnings and inequality estimates…can be used to evaluate national economic trends and their effect on the well-being of households, families and individuals.” It further notes that “annual official poverty and Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) estimates help gauge the economic well-being of households, families and individuals based on official poverty and SPM rates,” while health insurance statistics “show coverage trends and examine health insurance status by select characteristics to better understand the well-being of individuals.”

Presenters at the event will include David Waddington, chief of the Social, Economic and Housing Statistics Division; Sharon Stern, assistant division chief for Employment Characteristics; Liana Fox, assistant division chief for Economic Characteristics; with Julie Iriondo moderating as chief of Media Relations Branch.

The press kit containing reports, data tables, and related materials will be made available online shortly after the news conference begins. The event will take place via Webex by Cisco. Members of media outlets can participate in a question-and-answer session following presentations by phone or through Webex using provided credentials. Additional information about accessing the event is available on the Census Bureau’s website (https://uscensusevents.webex.com/uscensusevents/j.php?MTID=m7e0f0fe492f905f5dbb5b500a6a5fcf7).
