Comcast has started work on a broadband expansion project in Kings County, California. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony in Lemoore on October 28 to mark the beginning of the initiative, which aims to connect more than 4,000 locations in rural areas to high-speed internet. The project is scheduled for completion by late 2026.

The expansion builds on Comcast’s previous investments in California, where it has spent over $4 billion on technology and infrastructure improvements during the past three years. Funding for this new project includes a grant of more than $21 million from the Federal Funding Account (FFA) through the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), along with private investment from Comcast.

Comcast also announced a $10,000 donation to Kings Community Action Organization. This contribution is intended to support digital access programs and help local residents and families gain better opportunities to participate in an increasingly digital society.

Doug Verboon of the Kings County Board of Supervisors from District 3 commented on the development: “We are thrilled that Comcast is expanding its services to Kings County. This significant investment in technology infrastructure will support local businesses and enhance our residents’ quality of life. We are thankful to Comcast and the CPUC and look forward to collaborating to bring this broadband project to fruition.”

The company says its network is designed for reliability, speed, and security, serving more than 64 million homes and businesses nationwide—including essential organizations such as hospitals, schools, transportation systems, and first responders. According to Comcast, customers can expect multi-gigabit internet speeds with 99.9 percent reliability.

For residential users, services will be offered under Xfinity and NOW brands. These include internet access, video streaming options, mobile service, voice communications, home security solutions, strong WiFi coverage throughout homes, low-latency connections for various uses like streaming or remote learning.

Businesses in Kings County will have access to Comcast Business offerings such as connectivity solutions; networking; cybersecurity; wireless services; managed IT solutions; and scalable Ethernet services recognized by industry analysts as among the fastest-growing nationwide.

Comcast highlighted its Internet Essentials program—a broadband adoption initiative providing eligible households with affordable high-speed internet and computers—which has connected over 2.2 million Californians since it began in 2011.

In addition to infrastructure projects like this one in Kings County, Comcast reports investing more than $130 million over three years into nonprofit partnerships across California focused on digital skills training initiatives and expanding public WiFi zones.
