Community Medical Center is preparing to open the Burnett Extended Care Center, a new 62,500-square-foot facility in Downtown Fresno. The center will provide 154 skilled nursing beds and is located next to the main hospital.
Local dignitaries and politicians are scheduled to tour the facility this week. The center aims to improve patient care by offering services such as a secure memory care unit with safety features, long-term and short-term care units, rehabilitation space, and two landscaped courtyards. It also includes modern therapy areas, including an occupational therapy gym designed to help patients practice daily activities for increased independence.
“Having this so close to our downtown hospital not only provides necessary care and comfort for our patients but it allows them to be discharged safely to an appropriate care environment,” said Community Health System Chief Operating Officer Cory Belliston.
The new building will also house administrative offices for more than 40 leaders from Community Medical Center. The facility is named after Celia Burnett, who founded the Burnett Sanitarium in 1897. The original sanitarium played a significant role in healthcare development in Fresno and eventually evolved into what is now Community Health System.
