Danielle Parra has announced her candidacy for the District 5 seat on the Fresno City Council. Parra, age 27, currently serves as president of the State Center Community College District board. She was first elected to that position in 2020 and won re-election in 2024, making her one of the youngest elected officials in Fresno County.

The current District 5 councilmember is Brandon Vang, who was elected in a special election held in March. His term runs through 2027.

Parra’s campaign announcement highlighted her work with the State Center Community College District. According to her news release, she contributed to opening a police and fire training campus in Southeast Fresno, enhanced workforce training programs that link students with local jobs, and expanded educational opportunities.

“I’m running for Fresno City Council to continue delivering results for our neighborhoods and families,” said Parra. “District 5 is where Fresno’s future is being built, and I’m ready to keep fighting for investments that make our city safer, stronger, and more affordable for working families.”

Her campaign will focus on public safety, infrastructure improvements, parks and community spaces. These issues are aimed at strengthening neighborhoods and improving quality of life for residents of District 5.

Parra emphasized her intention to support local businesses in the district. “These are family owned businesses that create local jobs and support local families. They are a vital part of these neighborhoods. Being a partner with them is going to be most important — someone who can listen to them and work with them to help their business thrive,” Parra said.

She also noted the importance of being accessible and responsive as a representative.

A native of Fresno, Parra holds a master’s degree in public administration from Fresno State. She has experience working in communications alongside small businesses and nonprofits to increase community outreach efforts.
