Police are investigating a shooting that left five people wounded outside a Safeway supermarket in San Francisco’s Outer Richmond neighborhood on Saturday night. Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 9 p.m. and found several victims at the scene, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Authorities said one man suffered life-threatening injuries while four juveniles were also injured but expected to survive. All five were taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police Capt. Kevin Lee told the San Francisco Chronicle that the incident began with a fight. No arrests have been made, and investigators have not released information about any suspects.
The shooting caused panic among bystanders in the area. Tommy Corcoran, 19, told the Chronicle he hid behind a log in Golden Gate Park after hearing gunshots and seeing people fleeing.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie issued a statement condemning the violence: “This kind of violence does not represent who we are as a city, and we will never tolerate it.”
