Fresno County has been highlighted as a top culinary destination in the 2025 holiday issue of Food & Travel magazine. The article, written by Tom Kane, publisher of Food & Travel Magazine and a former songwriter, filmmaker, and rapper known as “Poverty,” describes his recent visit to the region.
Kane participated in a two-day culinary tour organized by Visit Fresno County alongside other travel writers and influencers. The group explored various local food destinations, including the Vineyard Farmers Market and Westwoods BBQ & Spice Company, which Kane described as serving “the best barbecue he’s had in California.” Other businesses mentioned include Triple Delight Blueberries, Raphio Chocolate, Fresno Underground Suppers, and the private “Cook It In Clovis Cook-Off” competition.
Local chefs featured during the tour included Daniel and Claire Skinner, Chef Robert Ortiz III, Chef Ross Verzosa, and Robert W. Snyder III—formerly executive sous chef at The Elderberry House in Oakhurst.
During their stay, the group also met with Ryan Jacobsen, president and CEO of the Fresno County Farm Bureau. Jacobsen spoke about family farming in the area with particular attention to blueberry production.
“In forty-eight hours, Fresno showed me its heart—in the arch of a redwood truss, in a jar of blood orange marmalade, in a blueberry picked by hand and eaten under the sun,” Kane wrote. “This place isn’t trying to reinvent itself. It’s reminding the world what sustains it.”
