California communities are preparing for a wide range of Fourth of July celebrations, with events planned in cities and towns across the state. From large fireworks displays in major metropolitan areas to unique traditions in smaller communities, residents and visitors have many options for marking Independence Day.
In San Francisco, the main fireworks show will be visible over Fisherman’s Wharf. South Lake Tahoe is set to host a synchronized display that can be viewed from various locations around town or from a yacht on the lake. Nearby Tahoe City will feature an eco-friendly drone show with 300 drones over the lake.
Los Angeles County offers one of its largest displays in Marina del Rey, where spectators can enjoy synchronized music at Burton Chace Park or join a cruise on City Experiences. In Orange County, Newport Beach will hold its Fireworks Extravaganza over Back Bay, while San Diego County will present the Big Bay Boom, which can be seen from downtown and other waterfront locations.
Theme parks throughout California are also participating. Disneyland Resort will offer its nightly fireworks show with patriotic music on July 4th. Knott’s Berry Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood plan special displays as well. Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom will feature fireworks each night from July 4–6. LEGOLAND California’s Red, White & Boom event and SeaWorld San Diego’s Summer Spectacular series both include live music and fireworks.
Northern California towns have their own traditions. Crescent City’s parade and festival culminate in the North Coast’s largest fireworks display above Battery Point Lighthouse. Weaverville celebrates with anvil firing at dawn on July 4th, followed by breakfast and a parade. Susanville in Lassen County hosts live music, food vendors, crafts, and an evening fireworks show at Lassen County Fairgrounds.
Colfax begins festivities early on July 3rd with family activities and continues with neighboring towns holding their own shows on July 4th. Lake County offers three consecutive nights of pyrotechnics over Clear Lake alongside parades and worm races.
Other regional highlights include Rancho Cordova’s two-day celebration at Hagan Park featuring concerts and carnival rides; Vacaville’s annual party at Andrews Park with food trucks; Bridgeport’s four-day Independence Day event reflecting local culture; Columbia State Historic Park’s Gold Rush-themed contests; Concord’s fun run, parade, and evening fireworks; Morgan Hill’s Freedom Fest dating back to 1876; Visalia’s baseball game paired with holiday festivities; Pismo Beach’s pier-side celebration; Big Bear Lake’s mountain-view display; Camarillo’s shopping-focused holiday capped by fireworks; Oxnard’s Channel Islands Harbor boat parade followed by nighttime pyrotechnics; Santa Monica’s Ferris wheel illuminated as an American flag; Long Beach’s waterfront viewing opportunities including cruises aboard Harbor Breeze Cruises or events aboard the Queen Mary; Greater Palm Springs’ multiple displays paired with dining deals through its Summer Eats Pass program (https://www.visitgreaterpalmsprings.com/summer-eats-pass/); Dana Point’s coastal vantage points for Doheny State Beach celebrations or cruises for ocean views of the show (https://danawharf.com/); Catalina Island’s golf cart parade, dinghy procession in Avalon Harbor, live performances including one by the USC Trojan Marching Band on July 3rd, followed by dual-location fireworks shows.
