Fresno State students are set to participate in a one-day service event on November 15, coordinated by the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. The initiative is part of the Emerging Leaders Retreat, organized by Fresno State Student Involvement, which aims to help students build leadership skills, network, and engage in community service. Registration for the retreat and volunteer event is open online until October 31.

Participants will have the option to volunteer at three different sites: Hearts and Hands at Ronald McDonald House, Dakota Eco Village, and San Joaquin River Conservancy. Student leaders from the Richter Center have managed planning responsibilities, including selecting community partners and organizing food donations.

At Ronald McDonald House, volunteers led by Alisa Gonzalez and Rubi Rivera will assist with autumn-themed arts and crafts as well as storage room organization. At Dakota Eco Village, Khushleen Khak, Prabhjot Gill, and Elizabeth Melendez will supervise gardening activities and set up Thanksgiving decorations for residents who are overcoming homelessness. Yuna Ha and Aisley Chavez will direct environmental projects at San Joaquin River Conservancy aimed at enhancing the San Joaquin River Parkway.

According to organizers, Fresno State has provided more than one million hours of community service each year in the Central Valley over the past sixteen years.
