Governor Gavin Newsom announced that the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) has awarded $99.9 million in California Competes Tax Credits (CalCompetes) to nine companies across the state. The awards are expected to support the creation of 2,752 new jobs with an average annual salary of $139,000 and attract more than $370 million in private investment.

“California’s global leadership in innovation and manufacturing continues to set us apart. Through programs like CalCompetes, we’re attracting companies and helping them grow successfully in our state, creating good-paying jobs and opportunities for Californians,” said Governor Newsom.

The latest round of CalCompetes awards supports manufacturers from sectors such as aerospace, wastewater treatment, and microelectronics. Manufacturing is a significant sector in California’s economy, producing $405.6 billion in output in 2024 and employing over 1.24 million workers.

Companies receiving funding include Atomic Machines Inc., which will invest $156.3 million to expand its facilities in Santa Clara, Emeryville, and the Greater East Bay Area, creating 305 jobs. Bright Machines plans a $62.9 million investment to scale its Fremont data center infrastructure manufacturing facility, resulting in 295 new jobs. Hadrian Automation, Inc. will expand aerospace component manufacturing with a $52 million investment across Torrance and Northern California, adding 650 jobs.

Other recipients are Bella Phytologic ($33 million for vitamin and supplement manufacturing), Gimme Health Foods Inc. ($20 million for seaweed food/snack production facilities), Pacific Scientific Energetic Materials Company ($18 million for diagnostic device expansion), Community Infrastructure Investment Group ($12.8 million for wastewater equipment production), True Anomaly ($12.7 million for satellite manufacturing expansion), and Color Image Apparel ($2.5 million to expand its Beverly Hills headquarters with 774 new jobs).

“These companies represent the next generation of California innovation,” said Dee Dee Myers, Senior Advisor to Governor Newsom and Director of GO-Biz. “From advanced manufacturing to clean technology, these investments strengthen the industries that define our economy and accelerate inclusive, economic growth across the state.”

Since its inception, CalCompetes has awarded tax credits to more than 1,200 businesses committed to nearly 160,000 full-time jobs based in California and generating over $50 billion in private investment.

In February, Governor Newsom introduced the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint as part of a plan implemented by nine state agencies on the California Jobs First Council. The Blueprint focuses on supporting regional growth initiatives, investing in job training programs relevant for today’s workforce needs, fostering an environment conducive to business development, and strengthening the state’s innovation-driven economy—all aimed at increasing access to well-paying jobs throughout California.

California remains one of the world’s largest economies with leading positions nationally in business starts, venture capital investments, manufacturing output, agriculture production levels as well as record tourism spending.
