The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Midwest Territory and District 77 marked the 25th anniversary of their annual Guide Dogs of America (GDA) Charity Golf Tournament, known as the “John Massetti Memorial,” in Minnesota. The event brought together fifty-six golfers and raised over $15,000 for Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Raffle prizes totaling more than $5,000 were also distributed, supported by donations from sponsors and supporters.
The tournament began with John Massetti, a Local 1833 member who sought to expand fundraising efforts for GDA beyond motorcycle runs by organizing a golf event. Although Massetti passed away two decades ago, IAM District 77 and Local 1833 have continued to hold the tournament each year to support GDA’s mission of providing guide dogs and service dogs to those in need.
“I want to thank everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to come out and support Guide Dogs of America,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “It’s because of the dedication and hard work of our members, our retirees, and our volunteers that this event continues to be such a success.”
“This tournament is more than just a day on the golf course,” said IAM District 77 Directing Business Representative Andrew Peltier. “It’s a powerful way to honor John Massetti’s legacy and make a real difference in the lives of those who rely on Guide Dogs of America. The commitment and generosity of everyone involved is truly inspiring.”
After twenty-five years, organizers say the John Massetti Memorial Golf Tournament demonstrates how collective action among IAM members can lead to meaningful results for charitable causes.
