The Kaweah Health Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Marc Mertz as the organization’s next chief executive officer. Mertz, who currently serves as chief strategy officer for Kaweah Health, will begin his new role on December 22. He will succeed Gary Herbst, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Mertz joined Kaweah Health in 2018 and has played a key role in shaping its strategic direction. Before joining the Visalia-based healthcare provider, he held leadership positions at several organizations, including serving as vice president and physician services practice leader at GE Healthcare (formerly The Camden Group) in El Segundo. His previous experience also includes serving as president of Health Check Incorporated in Florida and vice president at The Horizon Group in Virginia.

“We are excited for Marc to step into the position of CEO, bringing not only more than 20 years of experience outside our organization, but also a deep knowledge and understanding of Kaweah Health and our unique challenges,” said Mike Olmos, president of the Kaweah Health Board. “Marc is the right person to guide Kaweah Health through the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Kaweah Health’s board undertook a nationwide search for candidates before selecting Mertz. The process involved meetings with board members, medical staff, executive leaders and community stakeholders over several months.
