Global construction equipment company Komatsu has taken over the former Gee Heavy Machinery dealerships in Fresno and Sacramento. The move brings both locations into the Komatsu West company-owned dealer network in Northern California.

Gee Heavy Machinery had closed its operations in July, following what it described as “a thoughtful and thorough evaluation of the long-term outlook for the business,” according to a report by equipmentworld.com. The company had only recently become Komatsu’s official distributor for Northern California in December 2023, after taking over from Core Machinery.

After shutting down, Gee Heavy Machinery filed layoff notices with the state for 57 employees at its Sacramento headquarters and sites in Fremont, Redding, and Fresno. The Fresno location at 5461 Nikita Ave. previously employed nine people.

Komatsu stated that both the Fresno and Sacramento sites are now operating again, staffed by Komatsu professionals. Many of these employees were technicians who previously worked at these dealerships.

The addition of these locations will allow Komatsu West to provide full sales, rental, parts, and service support to customers across Northern California. The company also announced an expanded selection of more than 350 pieces of pre-owned equipment now available for purchase through these sites.
