Christian Brown-Johnson, a real estate agent based in Madera, has achieved a Guinness World Record by running an ultramarathon on every continent within seven consecutive days. He completed a 50-kilometer race on each continent, covering more than 217 miles overall, finishing his final leg in Miami on November 21.
Brown-Johnson’s effort was not only for personal accomplishment but also to support Parkinson’s disease research. Through his participation and partnership with Project 5077, he raised $120,000 for the cause, with half of the funds directed to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
He explained his motivation for taking on this challenge: “I’m doing this to bring awareness to Parkinson’s disease and to help find a cure, as I’ve watched my grandpa endure this disease now for a few years,” he stated on his Gofundme page.
The global marathon was organized through The Great World Race, an event that enables participants to run races on seven continents over seven days. The itinerary included Wolf’s Fang in Antarctica; Cape Town in South Africa; Perth in Australia; Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates; Algarve in Portugal; Cartagena in Colombia; and Miami in the United States. The event is structured as a travel excursion for ultra runners and provides both logistical and support teams at each location.
Reflecting on the experience, Brown-Johnson said via Facebook: “Choosing to chase Guinness World Records with The Great World Race was the right decision,” noting that organizers accommodated official measurements for his 50k runs. He also acknowledged the community of fellow runners who participated alongside him.
