The estate of O.J. Simpson has agreed to a $58 million claim from Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, but any actual payment is expected to be much less than that amount. Malcolm LaVergne, executor of Simpson’s estate, stated, “It won’t be $58 million plus interest, but it will be a voluntary payment. That’s the point.” He added that he is still working to gather between $500,000 and $1 million in total assets.
Simpson died in 2024 at age 76 from prostate cancer. He was acquitted in criminal court for the 1994 killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in Los Angeles. However, Simpson was later found liable for their deaths in a civil trial and ordered to pay the families $33.5 million—a sum that has increased over time due to interest.
Fred Goldman pursued Simpson for years after the verdict, arguing that Simpson never willingly paid any part of the judgment. The acceptance of Goldman’s $58 million claim by LaVergne was confirmed in a court document filed Friday in Clark County, Nevada. The estate did not accept a higher claim amount of $117 million sought by Goldman’s side. Accepting the claim means there will not be lengthy litigation over its validity.
Michaelle Rafferty, attorney for Fred Goldman, commented on the development: “The estate has accepted the claim as valid but ‘it does not constitute payment.’ We will continue to closely monitor the probate proceedings,” she said in an email.
