PG&E customers to receive fall climate credit on energy bills

In October, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will apply the California Climate Credit to the electric bills of millions of residential and eligible small business customers. This credit is part of California’s Cap-and-Trade Program, which aims to reduce carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.

Residential PG&E customers with active electric accounts will receive a $58.23 credit on their bill, matching the amount distributed earlier in April. Customers who also have natural gas service received an additional $67.03 annual gas credit, bringing the total value of bill credits for dual-service households in 2025 to $183.49. Eligible small business customers will receive a $58.23 electric credit in October as well, totaling $116.46 for the year after receiving an identical credit in April.

The California Climate Credit represents the public’s share from statewide efforts to address climate change under the Cap-and-Trade Program, managed by the California Air Resources Board and distributed by PG&E under guidance from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).

“This credit helps ease energy costs for our customers and reinforces our commitment to a more sustainable and climate-resilient energy future,” said Vincent Davis, Senior Vice President, Customer Experience.

Since 2014, CPUC estimates show that PG&E residential and small business customers have received an average of $1,000 each in California Climate Credits on their utility bills, totaling over $12.9 billion in benefits across the state.

PG&E encourages customers to take further steps to manage energy use and reduce bills. These include enrolling in programs like HomeIntel for personalized coaching, Budget Billing for predictable payments, or using online tools such as Rate Comparison and Savings Finder available through PG&E’s website.

Additional support includes income-based assistance programs like Medical Baseline for those with certain medical needs requiring electricity at home. Energy-saving advice is also offered through DIY toolkits that help customers invest in efficiency measures that can save money annually.
