Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is advising customers to prepare for higher-than-average temperatures this summer by taking steps to manage energy use and control costs. According to PG&E’s Meteorology Operations, above-average heat is expected in the coming months.
PG&E encourages customers to review their current rate plans using the online Rate Comparison tool available through their accounts. This tool helps identify the lowest-cost plan based on household energy usage. Customers can also enroll in Budget Billing, which averages energy costs over 12 months to help avoid large fluctuations in monthly bills. Bill Forecast Alerts are another option, providing notifications via email, text, or phone if a bill is projected to exceed a customer-set amount.
The HomeIntel program offers free personal energy coaching for those looking for more tailored advice.
“We know the challenges rising temperatures can bring and we want to connect customers with the discounts and resources they need to weather the summer heat,” said Vincent Davis, PG&E Senior Vice President, Customer Experience. “A few small changes at home can make a difference, and we want to make sure families have access to support tools and programs that can reduce energy expenses.”
PG&E reports that there will be no additional electric rate increases for the remainder of 2025. The company expects residential combined gas and electric bills will remain steady through the end of the year and decrease in 2026. However, increased use of air conditioning during hot periods may still result in higher individual bills.
To help manage cooling costs further, PG&E provides additional resources such as a Home Energy Checkup, SmartRate Program, and Savings Finder tool on its website at https://www.pge.com/summer.
Income-eligible customers have access to assistance programs designed to lower monthly bills. There are also options like Medical Baseline for those who rely on electricity for certain medical needs.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company serves more than sixteen million people across Northern and Central California. More information about services and programs is available at https://www.pge.com/ and https://www.pge.com/news.
