As the holiday season approaches, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is offering customers advice on how to manage energy use and costs during a time when homes typically see an increase in electricity consumption.

The California Energy Commission reports that lighting accounts for 10% of household energy use, while kitchen appliances make up 31%. During the holidays, additional lighting, heating, and cooking can lead to higher energy bills.

David Poster, PG&E Director of Building Electrification and Energy Efficiency, said, “The holidays are all about connection and comfort. Customers can celebrate while keeping energy costs down by adding a few simple steps into their holiday routine.”

PG&E suggests building an Energy Efficiency DIY Toolkit with efficient materials to help households save money throughout the year. The company also encourages customers to watch its video for more savings strategies this season.

To further assist with managing expenses, PG&E recommends that customers use its online Rate Comparison tool to ensure they are on the lowest-cost rate for their needs. The Budget Billing program is available as well; it averages out energy costs over twelve months to prevent seasonal spikes in payments.

For those who may need financial assistance with their bills, PG&E directs customers to visit pge.com/billhelp to check eligibility for aid programs.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company serves over sixteen million people across Northern and Central California. More information about the company can be found at pge.com and pge.com/news.
