Sequoia Brewing Co. in Fresno has launched a new promotion to support furloughed federal employees during the ongoing government shutdown. The brewery, which recently reopened on Champlain Avenue under new ownership, is offering its (Un)Happy Hour discounts to those affected by the shutdown.

The offer includes 15% off all starters and Happy Hour well-drink prices. To qualify, guests must present a federal ID or a .gov email account. Families of federal employees are also eligible, as are contractors who can show an agency badge or letter of authorization. The promotion runs Monday through Friday from 5-9 p.m., and will continue until the end of the shutdown, which has now reached its 21st day.

Stacey Dwyer, operations manager at Sequoia Brewing, said in a news release: “We know this period is stressful for a lot of local families. Our (Un)Happy Hour is a simple way to give folks a break with good food, fair prices and a place to unwind together.”

Discounted starters include items such as quesadillas, beercuterie board, wings, nachos and mozzarella sticks.

Many federal workers are expected to miss their first full paycheck by Friday, Oct. 24.

Dwyer added: “Our team is here to make it easy—show your badge or .gov email and we’ll take care of the rest. When the budget’s frozen, the beer isn’t.”
