A new feature called Home Safe is now available on Snapchat, allowing users to notify friends when they have returned home after being out. The feature aims to provide reassurance for close contacts without requiring users to manually send a message.

Home Safe is intended for situations such as returning from a date, concert, or trip. According to the company, “Home Safe can offer a close friend or family member peace of mind that you’ve made it home safely.”

Snap Inc. emphasized privacy and safety in the design of Home Safe alerts. “Alerts can only be sent to friends you already share your location with, and the notification goes out only once, then shuts off automatically,” the company stated. Location sharing on Snap Map remains off by default; users must opt in for anyone to see their location or receive a Home Safe alert.

More information about getting started with the feature is available through Snapchat’s platform.
