The U.S. Census Bureau has released preliminary data from the 2024 Annual Survey of School System Finances, offering an early view into public school spending for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. The data include state-level summaries of revenues and expenditures for the 2024 fiscal year.

According to the Census Bureau, fiscal years can differ among school systems, and the survey data have not been adjusted to create a uniform fiscal year across all systems. The agency also noted that these initial figures are subject to revision before the final release.

The Census Bureau plans to publish the finalized data for all 50 states and the District of Columbia in 2026.
