The UCSF Fresno Office of Health Career Pathways (OHCP) has opened applications for its Doctors Academy programs at Caruthers and Sunnyside high schools. The program is a four-year initiative designed for high school students interested in medical careers. It provides accelerated courses focused on math, science, and writing, as well as workshops on personal and professional development and academic counseling.

Applications are due by December 1. Students at Caruthers High School who wish to apply should contact Ruth Salazar at ruth.salazar@ucsf.edu, while Sunnyside High School applicants can reach out to marisol.vargas2@ucsf.edu for more information.

Eighth-grade students living outside the Caruthers Unified School District must secure an inter-district transfer approval to be eligible for the Caruthers Doctors Academy program. For Sunnyside Doctors Academy, applications are only accepted from eighth-grade students within the Fresno Unified School District. All required transfers need to be finalized by the December 1 deadline.

The Junior Doctors Academy is another program aimed at students from economically and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. It introduces participants to health care careers and helps them develop interest in the field, offering a pathway into the main Doctors Academy after completion. Additional details about the Junior Doctors Academy for eighth graders in Caruthers and Sunnyside will be announced in Spring 2026.
