A collaboration between Tangram Interiors, a Fresno-based design firm, and Kimball International has led to the “Capes for Kids” initiative at Valley Children’s Hospital. The program asked local businesses and organizations to create superhero-themed capes for children who are patients at the hospital during Halloween.

Alyssa Armesto, vice president of Tangram’s Fresno office, explained that the idea came after learning about a similar effort by Kimball International in Texas. There, more than 30 capes were decorated and donated to children in a local hospital.

Tangram originally intended to distribute 30 cape kits but found that community interest exceeded expectations. “At the end of the day, there was so much interest from the community, we distributed over 80 cape kits and we got back 74,” Armesto said.

She also commented on the level of engagement: “I think it’s a true testimony to the pride we have here in the Valley that we all kind of rally together to give back and support.”

The event aims to bring some joy and creativity to young patients spending Halloween in the hospital.
