The Virginia IAM Council recently held a meeting where labor issues and political activism were the main topics of discussion. Charles Mann, president of the council, addressed the importance of security, compensation, and safety for union members. He urged members to participate in the upcoming Virginia elections, noting that all major statewide offices and delegate seats will be contested. Mann emphasized voting for candidates who support labor interests.
Newly unionized members of the IAM shared their experiences organizing at botanical gardens where they are employed. They spoke about the support received from both international and state union partners, including the AFL-CIO.
The speakers at the meeting stressed that political engagement and participation in elections are necessary to advance labor rights and strengthen the labor movement. They highlighted that this message applies to all workers, regardless of political party affiliation.
