Visitors to Selland Arena in Downtown Fresno will soon see a new scoreboard, following a $605,000 donation from Visit Fresno County. The current scoreboard, which was installed in 2006, has become unreliable and is difficult and expensive to repair due to its outdated technology.
“Located in the heart of downtown Fresno, Selland Arena has brought our community together for generations, and thanks to this incredible donation, we’re investing in its future,” said Mayor Jerry Dyer. “This upgrade will ensure Selland Arena continues to be a premier destination for world-class entertainment.”
The new scoreboard is part of ongoing efforts to modernize the venue. Selland Arena has hosted a variety of events over the years, including games for the Fresno State Bulldogs basketball teams and the Fresno Monsters hockey team, as well as California Interscholastic Federation tournaments, concerts, comedy shows, dance performances, and ice skating events.
“This donation is Visit Fresno County’s commitment to the City of Fresno, our clients and the community on the importance of the FCEC as an economic generator to drive revenue and create an enjoyable and enhanced entertainment experience in Selland arena,” said Lisa Oliveira, President and CEO of Visit Fresno County.
The Selland Arena was built in 1966 and remains an important part of downtown Fresno’s entertainment scene. The timeline for the installation of the new scoreboard has not been announced. The Fresno Convention Center has not responded to requests for comment.
