Fresno nonprofits have received a total of $60,000 in grants from Walmart’s Spark Good program during the second quarter of 2025. The funding was distributed among organizations that support women and children, provide animal care, and offer resources to vulnerable populations.
The Central California Women’s Conference, based in Clovis, was awarded $7,500. The grant supported its annual one-day conference held on September 22, which raised over $110,000 for community causes. The funds from the event were distributed as grants to 72 local organizations. Karen Franz, director of development for the Central California Women’s Conference, said: “This grant has been transformative in advancing our mission of empowering women.”
Pawsitive Connections, a no-kill dog rescue located in Kingsburg, received a $1,000 Spark Good grant. Penny Pumphrey from Pawsitive Connections stated: “This grant helped ensure every dog in our care had what they needed to stay healthy, which allowed us to take in more senior and medical cases that might otherwise be overlooked.” She noted that dog food is one of the rescue’s largest expenses.
Two other Fresno-based groups also benefited from the Spark Good program. Exceptional Parents Unlimited was given $1,000 to fund training programs for families with children ages five and under. Refuge Aroma received a $1,000 grant to help create safe spaces for children after school and assist them with their schoolwork.
Hector Benavides, Walmart market manager, commented: “At Walmart, we’re proud to invest in organizations that make a real difference in our neighborhoods. It’s inspiring to see groups like the Central California Women’s Conference and Refuge Aroma create programs that uplift residents and strengthen our community.” He added: “Knowing that Walmart is investing into our communities and initiatives is truly rewarding to see.”
